Ranking Member Corrine Brown Comments on House Veterans' Affairs Hearing on Construction

Washington D.C.- On January 21st, 2015, The House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs held its first hearing of the 114th Congress to examine the Department of Veterans’ Affairs’ (VA) major construction program.

“From my personal experience with the years of delay in Orlando, and the issues in Denver, it seems that the VA is struggling with construction planning and execution,” stated Ranking Member Corrine Brown (D-FL).

The Committee focused on the delays and cost-overruns experienced by the VA in its hospital construction program.  “I believe it is time to work with my colleagues, the VA, and all stakeholders to find solutions to the problems we identified today. “We need to fix this and start looking down the road to determine how to provide on time, under-budget, state-of-the-art health care facilities where veterans most need them.”

Ranking Member Brown expressed her appreciation for the VA’s efforts to bring in experts and to address construction issues.  “I am encouraged by the steps the VA has taken, and look forward to working with them to ensure their major construction program puts veterans first,” Ranking Member Brown concluded.
