Shutdown Survey

On September 30, 2025, Republicans elected to not fund the U.S. government, resulting in the closure of many critical operations at the Department of Veterans Affairs. We understand that this will likely have widespread impacts on veterans, their families, and VA employees, and we urge you to share your experiences with the Committee here.

Missing GI Bill Benefits During the Government Shutdown?

During a government shutdown, most VA Education benefits should still be paid on time. VA has acknowledged some delays caused by computer system issues for the Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA) program. Some payments manually processed by Veteran Readiness and Employment counselors are also delayed while the counselors are furloughed. However, we have heard from several Veteran Service Organizations about more widespread payment delays and issues.

If you are missing a VA education benefits payment, please share your story with us so that we can understand the scope and impact of the problem.
