Chairman Takano Applauds VA Move to Require COVID-19 Vaccines for Care Providers

WASHINGTON, D.C —Today, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mark Takano (D-Calif.) praised VA Secretary McDonough’s decision to require COVID-19 vaccines for all Title 38 VA providers-- including physicians, dentists, podiatrists, optometrists, registered nurses, physician assistants, expanded-function dental auxiliaries, and chiropractors-- in the following statement. 

“I firmly support Secretary McDonough’s decision to require COVID-19 vaccines for all Title 38 VA providers. Our veterans deserve the best healthcare possible, and to know that VA is doing everything in its power to keep veterans and staff safe at VA facilities. Over 162 million Americans are now fully vaccinated. During a global pandemic where there is a safe, widely accessible, free, and effective vaccine, it is common sense that providers on the frontlines be vaccinated. The only way to beat back the COVID-19 virus is to increase our protection against it. Just as I urged all veterans, their spouses, and caregivers to get the COVID-19 vaccine after the SAVE LIVES Actwas signed into law, I urge all VA staff to follow this guidance and do their part to help us defeat this virus. Our nation’s veterans depend on you.”
