Veterans’ Affairs Ranking Member Mike Michaud Wants Facts First
Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, the American Legion called on several Department of Veterans’ Affairs senior leaders to resign, including Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki. The Legion indicated the call for leadership changes at the top follows a number of high-profile concerns about veterans receiving critical care in a timely fashion. Congressman Mike Michaud (D-ME), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, issued the following statement:
“There is nothing I take more seriously than the safety and well-being of our veterans. I have been at the forefront of fighting for access to quality, timely healthcare for our veterans. The ongoing reports of serious shortfalls in care for veterans are deplorable. We must ascertain exactly what happened in Phoenix, and who within the chain-of-command is responsible. The Office of Inspector General is conducting a thorough investigation into the allegations. We must do everything we can to ensure that investigation is conducted both thoroughly and quickly, so we can have a complete understanding of all the facts. Once the IG’s investigation is complete, we will take the necessary actions to assure veterans do not face inordinate delays and have access to top-quality healthcare.”
