Ranking Member Walz Statement on Arlington National Cemetery Report to Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Ranking Member Tim Walz (D-MN) released the following statement after a report to Congress was released regarding the future of Arlington National Cemetery, which found that the cemetery will run out of space in 2041 if proper action is not taken.

“Arlington National Cemetery is some of our nation’s most hallowed ground, held in the heart of all Americans as a symbol of sacrifice of generations of Americans. Our American story and our American hero’s rest there. The report issued yesterday confirms what we have long expected: that at current rates of requests for burial, Arlington National Cemetery will reach full capacity in 2041. I commend the Army and the Advisory Committee for their commitment to including service members, veterans, Congress, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense and the American public in this critical conversation.”
