Ranking Member Walz Statement On Adm. Ronny Jackson

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Ranking Member Tim Walz (D-MN) released the following statement:

“It was the right decision for Adm. Ronny Jackson’s to remove himself as the nominee to be Secretary of Veterans Affairs,” said Rep. Walz.

“Immediately after Adm. Jackson withdrew, President Trump made a weak attempt to blame Senator Tester and Senate Democrats for obstructing his nominee to lead VA. In reality, this had nothing to do with Democrats and everything to do with President Trump bringing a wholly unqualified and un-vetted candidate forward. The decision to postpone Adm. Jackson’s confirmation hearing was made on a bipartisan basis in order to fully vet the nominee, something President Trump and his administration failed to do. The President has only himself to blame for this debacle.”

“I applaud Ranking Member Tester and Chairman Isakson for their bipartisan work to properly vet Adm. Jackson and investigate the allegations brought against him. I am also incredibly thankful for the brave servicemembers who came forward. If it weren’t for them, it is entirely possible Adm. Jackson would have become the next VA Secretary despite his inexperience and numerous red flags.”

“Once again, it is the responsibility of the White House to find a new nominee. In doing so, I urge them to work with Congress and veterans in the community to identify the most qualified candidate for the position.”
