Ranking Member Walz Applauds Passage Of Bill To Improve VA’s Authority To Hire, Retain Physicians

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Today, House Committee on Veterans Affairs Ranking Member Tim Walz (MN-1) released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 1367, “To Improve VA's Authority to Hire, Retain Physicians.”

“Today, members from both sides of the aisle came together to pass valuable legislation that will improve the VA’s capacity to recruit, hire, and retain talented doctors as well as improve the VA’s ability to compete with non-VA medical facilities when it comes to attracting the best and brightest physicians,” Rep. Walz said. “This legislation is a step in the right direction and will enhance the VA’s ability to deliver veteran-centered care to the brave men and women who have served in uniform. Thank you to Representative Wenstrup for introducing the bill.”

“This bill serves as a perfect example as to how legislation ought to be taken up in committee and introduced on the House floor. It is incredibly important that whenever we consider legislation as important as this that members have the opportunity to build consensus by holding hearings and debating the issues with their colleagues.”

“I look forward to working with my House and Senate colleagues in the future so that we may continue to find bipartisan and common-sense solutions to the many issues impacting the Veterans Health Administration and the VA as a whole.”
