Ranking Member Walz Applauds House Passage Of Seven Bipartisan Veterans Bills

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Ranking Member Tim Walz (D-MN) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed seven bipartisan veterans bills, including multiple pieces of legislation championed by Democrats:

“We owe our deepest gratitude and respect to the brave men and women who risked their lives to defend this nation,” said Ranking Member Tim Walz. “The legislation the House passed today will make meaningful improvements to the lives of veterans across the U.S. and in turn honor their service and sacrifice. As the Ranking Member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, and as a veteran myself, I thank Chairman Roe and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for contributing toward these bipartisan successes and urge the Senate to take up the legislation without delay.”

The following bills were passed out of the House:

H.R. 2409, To allow servicemembers to terminate their cable, satellite television, and Internet access service contracts while deployed (Rep. Costello)

H.R. 5538, To amend title 38, United States Code, to provide for the inclusion of certain additional periods of active duty service for purposes of suspending charges to veterans' entitlement to educational assistance under the laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs during periods of suspended participation in vocational rehabilitation programs (Rep. Peters)

H.R. 5649, Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer William `Bill' Mulder (Ret.) Transition Improvement Act of 2018 (Rep. Arrington)

H.R. 5882, Gold Star Spouses Leasing Relief Act (Rep. Bustos)

H.R. 5938, Veterans Serving Veterans Act of 2018 (Rep. Gonzalez-Colon)

H.R. 5974, the VA COST SAVINGS Act (Rep. Denham)
