Ranking Member Walz Applauds House Passage Of Appeals Modernization Bill
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Committee on Veterans Affairs Ranking Member Tim Walz (D-MN) released the following statement after the House of Representatives in a pro forma session passed H.R. 2288, as amended: The Veterans Appeals Improvement and Modernization Act of 2017, a bill that if signed into law will modernize the disability claims appeals process at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA):
“I’m extremely proud of my friends and colleagues on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs for their continued commitment to bipartisan leadership,” Rep. Walz said. “Thanks to the hard work of Members on both sides of the aisle, this Congress has been more successful than any other in recent memory at passing bipartisan legislation that will significantly improve the lives of our nation’s veterans. Today, there are more than 450,000 veterans waiting for the VA to provide them the benefits they earned after incurring a disability while in serving in uniform. Thanks to Representatives Mike Bost (R-IL) and Elizabeth Esty (D-CT), who together championed the Veterans Appeals Improvement and Modernization Act of 2017, we are now one major step closer to sending this truly transformative appeals reform bill to the President to be signed into law.”
