WASHINGTON, DC – House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Ranking Member Mark Takano (CA-39) released the following statement after it was announced that veteran homelessness has reached an all-time low under the Biden-Harris Administration:
"I applaud the Biden-Harris Administration, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on this accomplishment towards the goal of ending veteran homelessness. With 32,000 veterans still unhoused, we have seen a 7.5% drop since last year and 11.7% drop since 2020. The Biden-Harris Administration committed to reducing veteran homelessness and it did. Even as our country faces challenges with affordable housing nationwide, VA and HUD rose to the task of working to ensure every veteran has a home and used innovative solutions to get and keep veterans housed.
We must continue to address the veteran homelessness crisis with the focus and urgency it deserves, including in Los Angeles where the need is most acute. I remain focused and committed to working with VA to ensure it has the resources to quickly and effectively house veterans in LA. We must center veterans and their needs in the conversations about the future of housing on the West LA VA campus.
Decreasing numbers of homeless veterans shows we must provide VA and its partners the funding and resources to allow them to continue to serve homeless veterans.”
