WASHINGTON— Yesterday, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Ranking Member Mark Takano released the following statement condemning the murder of VA ICU nurse Alex Jeffrey Pretti.
“Today we mourn the tragic death of yet another American standing against the violence we have all witnessed throughout our communities. Alex Jeffrey Pretti was gunned down in broad daylight in Minnesota by ICE agents using unjustified lethal force.
Before his life was taken from him, Alex spent his days caring for America’s veteran community as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. In that role, he served the brave men and women who fought to defend his rights and the rights of all Americans, including the rights to free speech and assembly. The heartwarming tributes from his coworkers sharing that he was someone who ‘lived to help’ make this senseless killing even more heartbreaking.
What is happening across America is not normal and should not be accepted as such. The Senate must reject the current Department of Homeland Security funding package and demand accountability from all parties responsible for the tragic death of Alex Jeffrey Pretti.
My heart is with Alex’s family. No words can bring back your son, but his name and the justice he was fighting for will never be forgotten.”
