WASHINGTON— Today, House Committee on Veterans' Affairs Ranking Member Mark Takano issued the following statement regarding SB 694, urging his California colleagues to bring this important legislation to the floor for a vote today.

“Veterans were willing to give everything in service to our country. In turn for that service and commitment, we need to exemplify that same level of commitment to ensuring they receive every penny of their benefits. Unfortunately, bad actors are set on profiting off the backs of veterans. These claim sharks take advantage of the confusion veterans face as they navigate bureaucratic red tape. They promise to guide veterans, when in reality, they exploit the confusion far too many veterans face in the benefits claims process. SB 694 would finally crack down on these unaccredited for-profit companies leaching off of veterans. I strongly support the passage of SB 694. Veterans fought for our country – they shouldn’t have to fight off claim sharks to receive the benefits they earned.”

Ranking Member Takano sent a letter of support to California State Senate Military and Veterans Affairs Committee Chair Bob Archuleta and California State Assembly Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs Chair Pilar Schiavo.
