WASHINGTON— House Veterans' Affairs Committee Ranking Member Mark Takano issued the following statement denouncing Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Collins's latest decision to terminate more than 1,400 additional VA employees, following the initial dismissals of over 1,000 workers on February 13, 2025.

The Secretary's office has failed to comply with the Committee's requests for documentation regarding the identities, roles, and performance histories of the terminated employees. Additionally, VA has not provided the briefing requested by 90 congressional Democrats in their February 15th letter to the Secretary.

"This latest wave of firings coming just days after the initial termination of more than 1,000 employees, is deplorable," said Ranking Member Takano. "I am deeply disturbed by Secretary Collins’s continued actions that are harming veterans, military spouses, civil servants, and their families. To say that these firings will not affect veterans’ care and benefits is a lie,” said Ranking Member Takano.

Ranking Member Takano continued, “To our veterans and VA employees impacted by the Secretary's actions, I implore you to reach out to your Members of Congress for help and resources. You are not alone in this fight, and House Democrats are ready to stand by you in this  battle for the due process you deserve.”
