Michaud Honors Senator Lautenberg’s Service

Washington, D.C.  – Today, Representative Mike Michaud, Ranking Member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, issued the following statement on the passing of Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey:

“Senator Lautenberg committed much of his life to serving this country. His service in World War II and his subsequent work in the United States Senate speaks not only to his commitment to our country’s future, but also to the enduring contributions that he and all of our veterans have made, and continue to make, to our nation.

“Public service is a calling our veterans embrace. As Senator Lautenberg demonstrated, the discipline, skill, and work ethic learned through the military serves veterans well in public office.  Whether it’s running for office or as an advocate for an important cause, I know veterans can make a difference.  Less than one quarter of the United States Congress has served in the military.  Our contry would benefit from more veterans serving in America’s public offices – federal, state and local.  Veteran service organizations are a great example of what veterans can do to help their fellow veterans each and every day.

“Senator Lautenberg accomplished much, lived up to so many that came before him, and set an example for others to follow. He’ll be greatly missed, and my thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues.”
