Michaud Applauds Obama Administration’s Veterans Employment Center Website

Washington, D.C.  – Congressman Mike Michaud (D-ME), Ranking Member on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, is praising today’s announcement that the White House is launching a new online resource for veterans, servicemembers and their dependents seeking employment. The Veterans Employment Center website will provide a central location for employers and veterans looking for work to come together. It will provide essential career tools to assist veterans and servicemembers making the transition to meaningful careers after their service is over.

“I applaud the administration’s efforts in bringing together many parts of the Executive Branch and private industry to streamline the employment and career tools offered to veterans and servicemembers,” Michaud said, “The work of First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden has been a great addition to the long-standing veterans support community.  The Veterans Employment Center website builds upon the work of many, including those of us on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, to provide real assistance to servicemembers and veterans seeking careers in these tough economic times.”

Recently, Rep. Michaud and Rep. Mark Takano (D-CA), Ranking Member of the HVAC Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity, held a roundtable with major business leaders focused on bringing groups together to share their ideas and efforts in recruiting and retraining veterans.

“Empowering veterans to find meaningful employment has been a priority for me during my twelve years in Congress,” Michaud added. “This website is a long-awaited milestone that will benefit so many of those who have served our nation.  I believe it is a real step forward in our efforts to enable our veterans and servicemembers to find substantive careers and maximize the talent they have developed through their service.”
