House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Advances 2 Bills for Veterans

WASHINGTON, D.C— Today, the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs held a Full Committee Markup and passed two bills for our nation’s veterans. This legislation will help the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) competitively recruit and retain high quality healthcare workers and provide VA with critical resources to support veterans’ mental health. 

“Today we passed two bills through the Committee to support our nation’s veterans and the talented healthcare workers who care for them,” said Chairman Takano. “I am so proud that we have advanced Rep. Underwood’s legislation to help VA competitively recruit and retain experienced nurses and physician assistants in high cost-of-living markets. This will help ensure our veterans receive the world-class healthcare that they deserve, and I applaud the VA providers who have made the personal choice to protect themselves and the veterans they serve by getting vaccinated. The Committee also advanced my legislation with Ranking Member Bost to bolster VA’s efforts to reduce veteran suicide through increased training, outreach, mental health care delivery, and research. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we remain committed to making sure that all veterans can access VA’s life-saving resources.”
