WASHINGTON, DC – Today, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mark Takano (D-Calif.) released the following statement after the Department of Veterans’ Affairs decided to break with the California State Approving Agency for Veterans Education (CSAAVE) tasked with looking for fraud, waste, and abuse at institutions that enroll student veterans.
“I am concerned by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs decision to not offer a cooperative agreement with the California State Approving Agency for Veterans Education (CSAAVE) for the next fiscal year. Having worked with CSAAVE, I know they have consistently acted in the best interest of student veterans. That’s why I plan to meet with VA leadership by the end of the week. It is absolutely critical this is resolved expeditiously by CSAAVE and VA. Students must be protected from institutions that abuse the system, target veterans, and leave them with worthless diplomas. The Committee on Veterans’ Affairs will continue our work to protect the GI Bill for this and future generations.”
