Chairman Takano on 9/11: “Let us uphold our commitment to a new, more diverse generation of veterans”

RIVERSIDE, CA—Today, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mark Takano (D-Calif.) released the following statement in recognition of all the servicemembers that have stepped up to serve our nation since 9/11 and the American patriots we have lost since then:

“19 years ago, our country was forever changed when terrorists hijacked planes and crashed them into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania,” said Chairman Mark Takano. “In the months and years following that day, we have seen servicemembers from different backgrounds, races, and creeds answer the call to defend our country’s freedoms. Today, I am calling on all of us to remember these servicemembers and the sacrifices they made and continue to make to ensure our country remains indivisible—especially the American patriots we have lost since then. 9/11 changed our country and it continues to dramatically change our veteran population. Together, let us uphold our nation’s commitment to a new, more diverse generation of veterans who have answered the call to serve our country.”
