Chairman Takano Meets with WWP’s Jose Ramos to Discuss Supporting Women Veterans, Access to Healthcare During the COVID-19 Crisis

RIVERSIDE, CA – This week, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mark Takano (D-Calif.) spoke with Jose Ramos, Wounded Warrior Project’s (WWP) Vice President of Government and Community Relations, to discuss the unique challenges faced by women veterans during the pandemic and veterans’ ability to access healthcare while unemployed.  “I cherish and value the partnership that the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee has with the Wounded Warrior Project. We’re so indebted to WWP’s service, and we can’t express our gratitude enough.” said Chairman Takano.  “I know that the Wounded Warrior Project has exceptional participation among women veterans. The House Veterans’ Affairs Committee worked diligently on a policy that we’re trying to get included into the next COVID-19 relief package that addresses homeless veterans with children-- most often these veterans with children are women veterans. As a public health concern, it is crucial that we support these veterans and their families and ensure that they have safe and proper housing. Women veterans with children need very specific VA assistance, and the Women Veterans Task Force is working to address these needs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you to all Wounded Warriors for what you've done for the country, and what you continue to do.”

Wounded Warrior Project is concerned with those transitioning veterans or servicemembers or those who have lost their jobs because of COVID-19 and the impact it has on their healthcare coverage or their healthcare eligibility,” said WWP Vice President Jose Ramos. “We’re working with the Committee to figure out what the best solution is to provide some sort of relief for those transitioning veterans going into the market and those who have lost employment. We’re also working with the women veterans that we serve across the community and across the veterans space because they present with different needs than the general population. We applaud what Rep. Brownley is doing with the Task Force because they’re looking through a lens specifically at those needs and helping address those challenges. We appreciate you taking the time to have a conversation with the Wounded Warrior Project and quite frankly with the VSO community at large. I think it speaks to you and the Committee’s dedication to veterans, family members, and caregivers.”
