Chairman Takano Launches Investigation into Foreign Internet Bots Intent on Deceiving Servicemembers, their Families, and the American Public

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mark Takano (CA-41) launched an investigation into the anonymous internet actors impersonating Veterans Service Organizations in an effort to scam servicemembers, their families, and the American public. Statement from the Chairman below:

“Foreign actors that use shadowy practices to disseminate false information, target servicemembers and their families, impersonate VSOs, and deceive the American people shouldn’t be allowed to operate outside the law. Our veterans served in uniform to guard against threats to our democracy just like those posed by these internet bots and trolls intent on sowing division and spreading misinformation. Congress has a responsibility to stamp out these anonymous individuals and protect our country from threats foreign and domestic.”
