WASHINGTON, D.C —Today, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mark Takano (D-Calif.) released the following statement after President-elect Biden announced he would nominate Denis McDonough to serve as Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs:

“I want to congratulate Secretary-designate Denis McDonough-- President-elect Biden’s nominee for Secretary of VA. He has a demonstrated record of solving problems. I am confident that he understands the importance of healthcare and veterans policy, values the voices of VSOs, and unlike the current Secretary, will actively work with Congress to support our veterans-- especially through the COVID-19 pandemic. I will work with him to restore the value of VA’s workforce and recognize the specific needs of our increasingly diverse veteran population and employees of VA. Cultural change starts at the top, and we need to make sure VA will be ready to care for more women, LGBTQ, Black, Asian, Hispanic, and native veterans than ever before. I look forward to partnering with Secretary-designate McDonough and the incoming Biden Administration to continue getting results for our veterans.”
