WASHINGTON, D.C —Today, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mark Takano (D-Calif.) issued the following statement regarding staff changes to the Committee and the appointment of Committee Staff Director Ray Kelley as Veteran Service Organization Liaison for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

“It is with great pleasure that I congratulate my advisor and friend, Ray Kelley, on his appointment as VSO Liaison for VA in the Biden Administration. Ray has been a tremendous support and guide during my time as Chairman, and I am grateful for his work on behalf of our nation’s veterans. He has served his country in two uniforms as both a Marine and Army veteran, as a policy expert for Veterans Service Organizations, and as a public servant on Capitol Hill where he has continued to be a guiding force for our efforts since we took the majority in 2019. While I’ll miss his able and extraordinary leadership dearly on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, veterans and VSOs will have a friend and ally as their advocate at VA.

“I also know that the steadfast leadership and commitment to our veterans will carry on under the leadership of Matt Reel as Staff Director. Matt previously served as the Deputy Staff Director for the Committee and is a seasoned Hill staffer and Army veteran. We accomplished a tremendous amount in the 116th Congress, but we have a lot of work still to do, and I’m confident our Committee has the tools it needs to continue serving all those who’ve served.”
